AUCKLAND, May 24. At the Supremo Court, Charles Kiwi Wilkinson, a half-caste Maori, aged 18, and Charles Boyd, aged 21, were sentenced for forgery, uttering and conspiring to defraud, the former to IS months’ reformatory treatment, on one charge, and to come up for sentence on the other ; Boyd to 18 months’ imprisonment. Walter -Francis D.arlg, a bankrupt merchant, whose case was recently before the Appeal Court, was brought up for sentence, on seven charges of breaches of the. Bankruptcy Act. Judge Chapman, said there was no. evidence of fraudulent intent, rather of recklessiess, perhaps carelessness. Taking into consideration what accused had already suffered, he imposed only the nominal penalty of two months’ hard labor, which would date from conviction, and therefore would have 'been already served. Thomas McDonald, clerk of the Bank of New Zealand, charged with theft and falsifying a ledger, was sentenced to 18 months’ hard labor. Frederick Thomas Martyn, for theft from vessels, was sentenced to two years on each of two charges, and 1 declared 1 an habitual criminal.
