CELEBRATION OF EMPIRE DAY [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT.] DUNEDIN, May 24. Empire Day is marked ‘by a display of bunting. On the schools assembling the flag was saluted, and the children were dismissed for the day. No retailers are closing, owing to the proxirAity of the King’s Birthday. HAWKE’S BAY RIVERS. NAPIER, May 24. The first meeting of the Central Rivers Board, elected under the Bill passed last session to control the whole of the rivers of this district, was held to-day. The Hon. J. D. Ormond was appointed chairman. The Board selected two engineers, Messrs C. D. Kennedy and Geoige Elliott (Taieri) to report on the rivers question, and the appointment of a third will he left to the Government. UNCHARTED ROOKS. WELLINGTON, May 24. Captain Bollons, of the Government steamer Hinemoa, .reports the existence of an uncharted rock inside the Twin Rocks. Bay of Islands, between the two there being a clear passage with seventeen fathoms of water. He also reports uncharted rocks at Three Kings, three having a depth of water over them at low tide of only Bft, oft and 4ft respectively.
