EARLY CANTERBURY COLONISTS. CPER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! CHRISTCHURCH, May 24. Mr. Alfred Cox, who represented Eteatlxcote in. Parliament from 1863 to. 1865, andJ Timaru from 1866 to 1868. died yesterday, aged 86. He had land in South Canterbury and Waikato until 25 years ago l , when he retired. He was editor of the well-known “Men of Mark in New Zealand.”

Another early settler, Airs. Wm. Pratt, died yesterday, aged 83. She came to Nelson in 1844, and to> Canterbury in 1851. ■
