KAITI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING

The usual monthly meeting of the Kaiti School Committee was held last night in the schoolliouse, the following members being present:—Messrs. K. Humphreys (chairman), J. R. Kirk, A. J. Fyson, J. Hay, R. Rowan, T. Jones, and J. C. E. Turner (secretary). The headmaster reported that the attendance at the school had not been quite so good since the weather has broken, the percentage for the first two weeks of May being over 90, whilst this last week it had dropped to 71 8 the lowest for some considerable time. Tlie number on the roll at present is 201. Tlie headmaster also stated that the term examination had been held, and had proved satisfactory m every way, and the children had had the usual week’s holiday at its conclusion. The report was adopted. The committee decided to abolish the presentation of medals for attendance in future, owing to the fact that under the new Act all children were required to attend every session of tlie school, tlie onus of regularity falling upon the shoulders of parents. It is, however, probable that a certain number of bock prizes will he given for attendance. The question of obtaining an Honors Board was also discussed, and it was decided that such a hoard should be purchased and hung in the lobby of the school. It was also decided to obtain the names of those children who liad attended tlie school and who had obtain:! the highest marks in each year since the inception of the school, their names to be placed on tlie hoard, tlie same to be done with those who have obtained scholarships. In addition to placing 'the name of tlie dux of tlie school on the board each year it was decided that a special prize of some sort should also be presented to the child winning the distinction. The visiting committee, Messrs. Hay and Rowan, reported that,.they had visited the school and found everything in good order, except that a little gravel was required on the path near the front door. The chairman was authorised to obtain either gravel or cinders for the purpose. _ Tlie question of Coronation celebrations was also discussed, and arrangements made for same. A number of accounts were also passed for payment.
