DOMINION BOY SCOUTS.
THE LOCAL TROOPS. Last Friday night a physical culture class was held, there being about eleven boys present. Rev. W. Grant, the instructor, put the boys through the old exercises, and gave them some new ones.. The junior class is held at 7 p.m., and the senior at 7.30 p.m. On Sunday, the 14th May, the Rev. Grant spoke at the morning rally, when there were seventeen boys present. Mr. Grant gave the boys a thrilling talk on “Friendship.” During the talk he told a touching story of two Greek friends, Pytheas and Damon. One day Pytheas displeased their king, the tyrant of Syracuse. He was condemned to be executed on a ■certain day, so he begged leave to visit his wife and children before he died. The king would not let him go till Damon promised to take his place if he did not appear before the day of execution. Pytheas was then allowed to go and see his family. The day for execution came, and the axe was just preparing to fall when a mud-covered horseman came spurring up. It was Pytheas ! He had returned in time to save Damon and to take his place. He embraced his friend, telling him how In . flooded rivers his horse had four times been swept from under him. He then prepared for death. The tyrant was so touched hy the friendship of the two men that he let Pythefts off. and asked him and Damon to he friends with him also. “This.” said Mr. Grant, “is an example of heathen friendship. Christians should, if possible, be even better friends than Pytheas and Damon.” At the Bible class last Sunday four scouts and Mr. Russell discussed the last chapter in the story of Joseph. Mr. Russell would like to see more boys at this class next Sunday afternoon.
