BRISBANE GAS STRIKE.

A portion of the city has been thrown in darkness owing to inexperienced stokers being unable to maintain the gas supply. THOUSANDS OF FACTORY EMPLOYEES IDLE. (Received Mav 27, 12.10 a .an.) BRISBANE, May 26. The gas strike has reached an acute stage. Owing to the failure of the- supply, thousandsi of hands employed in factories and other establishments relying oni gas for power are unable to resume work. The Coal Workers’ Lighters’ Union- agreed not to carry coal for the gasworks. A Trades Union deputation asked the Premier to intervene, but he replied that there was no cause to intervene. The company had done nothing contrary to law. He would, however, do his utmost to bring about a conference, and appoint an arbitrator if both sides were agreeable.
