THE REV. ANDERSON GARDINER. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) SYDNEY. May 29. The death has occurred of the Rev. Anderson Gardiner, Presbyterian, formerly in charge of the Bluff church. SIR CHARLES ELLIOTT. (Received May 29, 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 29. Sir Charles Alfred Elliott is dead. (ReeeVed May 30, 1 a.m.) LONDON, May 29. Sir Charles Alfred Elliott succumbed to syncope Avliile attending early Communion service. [Sir ’diaries Alfred Elliott, 1v.C.5.1., was created a borenet in 1887. He Avas educated ait. Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge, and entered the Indian civil service in 1856. He served in the Indian Mutiny in tlie years 1857 and 1858. Among the most important offices held by him during his lifetime were those of Chief Commissioner to Assam, 1881-85, and Lieut.-Governor of Bengal, 1891-95.)
MR R. J. HURREY
An old resident of the district, of upwards of 40 years’ standing, passed away after a short illness at Whan gar a yesterday atfernoon in the person of Mr R. J. Hurrey. In the early days Mr Hurrey was associated with the late Mr Wm. King in the sawmilling 'business at Makauri. For the past few years deceased had been managing' a station at Wbangara for the Hon. Capt. Tucker. A widow and three sons are left to mourn their loss. Three of the late Mr Hurrey’s sons served in the Boer War, one of them being killed in action:
