WILL BUTTE'R BE SCARCE?
The dairving season is expected to close earlier than was reckoned on a short time back, reports the Dominion.” The drought- caused farmers to have grave fears that the season worn be a short one, but, later, it was thought that the season was lengthening out. However, the recovery is not. as lasting as it appeared to be. In various quarters the season is expected to close, three weeks or a month earlier than it did last year. , , It is said that on this account the butter supply is shorter than manufacturers had) calculated' upon and the factories are putting up their prices, rn view of a possible shortage. In Wellington reports are current of high prices having been paid to fact-oi-ies for-bulk butter. A Wairarapa concern* is said to have asked and received an exceptional figure, and Taranaki factories are credited with having asked a similar price. A .Wellington: wholesaler says that it is almost impossible to buy butter in Auckland, hut it must be remembered that the quantity in cool store in Auckland is very heavy.
