The streets in many places were flooded. At Epso-m the crowd returning from trie races were in ai sorry plight . The lightning killed two policemen, as well as three other racegoers. Altogether seven deaths are reported already, and many have been- severely injured by the lglitning. Two city churches were struck, andtlie undergroimd railway was flooded, the system becoming short-circuited owing,to the water
