THE WELLINGTON EXHIBITION.
REQUEST FOR EXCURSION TRAINS.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! WELLINGTON, June S. Yesterday a deputation, comprising Messrs J. P. Luke, M.P., T. Ballinger, and L. R. Partridge (Exhibition Commissioners), and Mr N. F. Allen (secretary), interviewed the Minister .of Railways on the subject of excursion trains in connection with the exhibition. Mr. Millar was strongly urged to grant facilities to country residents to visit Wellington during the term of the exhibition. It would be specially convenient if such trains were run on days when the country towns observed the statutory weekly half-holiday. The Wellington Exhibition was the largest industrial one ever held in New Zealand, and it was therefore reasonable that the people of the province should have an opportunity within their means to see the goods. The Minister replied that he had to look after the railway revenue. He would confer with the officers, and see whether fortnightly excursion trains could be run. He thought it would be well for the Exhibition authorities to approach the Minister of Education, and ask him whether his Department would be willing to make up any deficit in the running of a special train. Personally he would be prepared to arrange for an excursion train from Woodville as an experiment.
