NORDERN CUP COMPETITION.

Recently a cup was presented for competition between the smaller hoekey associations by Mr Norden, of Christchurch, president of the N.Z.H.A. In order to decide who should hold the cup for the first season a tournament was arranged, as the result of which -Poverty Bay were,drawn to play Wairarapa, in the first round.

Mr, 6, R.. Olssii, iton. secretary of the laeal association, has received a letter from the secretary of the Wail'arapa Association, suggesting that the match be played on June 22nd (Corona--tion Day), at Hastings, in order, that the. distance to be travelled by either team should be made as equal as possible. The local association has decided to accept the suggestion from Wairarapa, and in all probability a thoroughly representative team will be able to make the trip. The local team will be selected early next week.

N. Z. REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION,

CHRISTCHURCH, June 9. The adjourned annual meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Referees’ Association was held last evening, when seven associations were represented. The following officers were elected :—Patron, His Excellency, Lord Islington; president, Rev. N. H. Matthias; vicepresidents, the presidents of affiliated associations; secretary, Mr S. W. Ford; treasurer, Mr A. G. Poison; auditor, Mr P.. N. Rundle; management committee, Messrs E. Halbert. OH. Hatch, N. Goldsbury, L. Cusworth, and E. P. Cooper. A considerable amount of correspondence was dealt with, and it was decided to further communicate with unaffiliated associations asking them to join the Association. _ It was decided to issue a standard ring for measurement of sticks.

The subscription was fixed at 10s 6d for the season, and the committee was instructed, to reconsider the ruling on off-side given last year. Several rulings asked for by different centres were agreed on.
