■Bluff is likely at no very distant date to become the, headquarters of a Norwegian whaling syndicate, which will operate in New Zealand waters from the Bay of Islands in the north to the Auckland' Islands in the south. The whaling industry at the Bluff has been dormant for'the best part of a quarter of a century, and its revival will be heralded with much joy at the port. The syndicate will comprise two companies who will combine, and who will be pi'epared to-offer New Zealanders an opportunity of taking shares. Captains Hasle and Elefscn have been moving in the matter of inspecting the probable ground of operations, and have applied to the Marine Department for the necessary concessions. Captain Haslets application was for stations at Bay of Islands, Chatham Islands, Stewart Island, and the Auckland Islands, and his application, has .been granted. Captain Elefsen is at present in "Wellington in connection with his application for similar concessions. The combined fleets are expected to number six vessels, and steam will be .utilised throughout.
