THE PELOTAS AGROUND.
STRANDED AT WANCANU! . TUG FAILS IN ITS TASK. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI, June 13. he- barquentine Polotas, ' from Eden (N.S.W.), which arrived off the bar last evening, was stranded on the Castlecliff beach about a quarter of a mile from the north mole. There was a heavy fresh in the river, and the tug towing the barquentine failed to- breast it. When both vessels had reached the pilot station they drifted out over the bar, where a heavy south-east wind drove the PeTotas ashore. The crew are safe, and t’he vessel is in a. good position, and is expected to be floated without difficulty when the weather modeates. Tne Pelotas has a cargo of sleepers for the Gonville Tramway Board. . [The Pelotas is a barouentine of 251 tons and is a well-known visitor to this port. On, her last trm here she was commanded by Captain Harris. The vessel is due to load at Wliangaroa after finishing at Waniganui, and then she is to sail for Newcastle, subsequently returning to- Gisborne with a cargo ot coal lor the Gisborne Sheepfarmers Co.]
