CORONATION MEMORIAL
[TO THE EDITOIL.j
Sir, —To have a permanent memorial is a very desirable thing, and although personally l I am no collector of doad or antiquated matter, I am of the opinion that a museum would be a vast improvement upon many of the curious ideas of advancement with which the people of these times are drenched. Would it not, however, be to far better purpose if the authorities undertook a work that would afford utility and enjoyment to the already existing. I am of the commonsense school of adjustment, and believe in the wider sweep of advancement which can be attained and made permanent only by the utility and improving of the materials at hand. Through the heart of this town runs two rivers and every one with any sort of the knowledge required for town building cannot but feel we are undeserving the advantages of these water elements. Travellers in other places all declare they, would give much to have.these two rivers flowing through their towns. Here at our very doors we have possibilities that the wisest envy and yet we chase about first after this silly scheme, and then that one, and in the,, end attain nothing worth having. Lock the rivers .(never mind the pessimists, you will find them peppering the whole world)- —we want scope and encouragement for our rowers; turn these unsightly wastes along the river bank into pleasant picnic grounds for our babies; and with the end in view of providing at some future time a bicycle track up one side of one river and down the side of the other, that our friends might with pleasure view the river spots and provide a fitting memorial for one of the greatest events of our time, the Coronation of King George.—l am, etc., V RATEPAYER.
