RAINBOW HUES IN GOWNS OF WOMEN.
VEILING MATERIAL DEVISED TO GIVE DELICATE TOUCHES OF COLOR.
The Wor effect of women’s gowns has for some time been obtained by the veiling of a dress, with a number of transparent materials of different shades, one over the other. Now, however, gowns are veiled by one material only, in which bright colors drift into pale shades and into other colors in rainbow effect. A new material for veiling, to which has been given the name “ombre crepe de soie,” was seen, recently. In this fabric bright rose, deeo blues, orange, emerald greens and other striking colors shade into their pale tints and to white, and drift into shades of grays and moles When arranged over a satin gown, the new veiling gives an artistic striped effect. Bright-colored dresses of one tone are veiled with a ninon or chiffon cf the same tone or in direct contrast. Beautiful brocades with large patterns of flowers, silver and gold designs, and soft materials woven with designs of roses and glittering gold effects are being displayed for the coronation. Fifteen, dollars a yard can be paid for white silk with a large pattern-’ of gold brocade and embroidered nosegays of silk flowers. Women can wear gowns brocaded with designs of gold of eighteen carat value.
