SINGAPORE MURDER.
TRIAL OF MRS PROUDFOOT

Further details are to hand in connection with the trial at Singapore of Mrs Produfoot, wife of the headmaster of the Victoria Institution, Kuala Lumpur. for the . alleged murder of a friend of her husband, named Stewaitt, on April 28rd. Mrs Rroudfoot states she was alone in her bungalow. SteAvart, who was a friend of the family, called on her, and made violent advances. She seized a revolver, and fired five shots into liis body at close quarters. Stewart Was described as a quiet man. Bad of 1000 dollars was allowed. Prisoner’s husband at the trial gave evidence that on his return, home shortly after the murder, his Avife was apparently crazy Avith fear, and her dress Avas torn as the result of Stewart’s alleged attempt to assault her.
CASE FOR THE DEFENCE. SINGAPORE, June 15. The 'defence pleads that Mrs. Proudfoot Avas hysterical and that her mental equilibrium was so upset by SteAvart’s assaults that she did not know Avhat happened after the first shot was fired.
