SPECIAL VISIT TO PALMERSTON

PALMERSTON N., June 19

Lord Islington paid his first special visit to Palmerston North this afternoon, when he was accorded a civic welcome by the Borough Council. He was presented with an address at the band rotunda in the Square, in the presence of a large gathering. The Mayor (Mr. Nash), Mr. D. Buick, M.P., and Mr. Haydon, president of the Chamber of Commerce, expressed the citizens’ welcome. His Excellency replied appropriately, dealing specially with his interest in the agricultural industry and the approaching Coronation.

He was accorded hearty cheers at the conclusion of In's speech. His Excellency visited the golf links in the afternoon, and to-morrow v ill open the winter show, and lay the foundation-stone of the new Wesleyan Church. He will also attend the annual dinner of the English Public School.
