A TRIBUTE TO MR J. WALSH.
[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir, —As a resident in the Waimata district for a considerable number of years, I have just heard that we have lost the services of our road-mainten-ance man, J. Walsh, who has been employed in that capacity by the County Council for an unusually lengthened period. In common with many others in the district I confess to feeling a keen regret in losing the services of a trustworthy and capable servant of the Council, and an equally keen regret in a more personal sense. First as a member of the Mounted Constabulary, in which capacity he served ' faithfully through the Maori war, then as a member of the police force, and later in the position he. lias, through increasing age and infirmity, just vacated, lie has justly earned) the esteem and respect of all with whom he lias come in contact, and I am sure I speakl for many, when I express a sincere hope for his improved health and general welfare in his comparative retirement. —I am, etc., ’ HOWARD KENWAY.
