, LPEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.! NAPIER, June 21. At a meeting of the Borough Council to-night, a. letter was read from Capt. M. N. Bower, asking to be relieved of the duties of Town Clerk. The for the ceremonial elsewhere, the jury and Mr M. Murray, assistant town clerk, was appointed to the vacancy. Capt. Bower retains Hie treasureship at an increased salary. NEW PLYMOUTH SUPREME COURT NEW PLYMOUTH, June 21. At the Supreme Court to-day a man named Delaney, a. laborer, was given a year’s reformatory treatment for forgery and uttering a cheque and theft. Albert Madgwick was acquitted on a charge of cattle stealing at Rahatutu. Much surprise was expressed when Mr Justice Edwards announced that he would sit through Coronation Day for civil business-, but out of consideration tor the ceremonial elsewhere, the jury cases would not resume till Friday. REFORMATORY TREATMENT DUNEDIN, June 21. Ernest Albert Frame, an ex-industrial school boy, who had pleaded guilty in the lower court to the theft of an overcoat and jewellery, was sentenced by Mr Justice Williams to be detained for reformatory treatment at Invercargill, for a period not exceeding two years. SUDDEN DEATH AT WAIROA. WAIROA, June 22. Mr. Henry Sargent, one of Wairoa’s oldest settlers, died suddenly this morning/ Probably no inquest will be necessary as lie had a weakness of the heart. Deceased was well known in the Wellington and Hutt districts in the early days. He was in business in Wairoa for many years, "find took an active- part in the defence of the town in the Hauliau rebellion time.
