New Zealand kicked off, before a crowd of 50,000 spectators, and immediate 1 - pressed, Francis heading, a dribblimr rush to the New South Wales goal line. The New Zealand forwards started well, but were soon outclassed by their smaller but more skilful opponents. From sera tray plav in the NewSouth Wales’ 25. Messenger centred to Trawley, who scored. Messenger added the extra, points. Asher, after a brilliant run, started a good' rush, but Francis was “downed” on the line. The New South Wales forwards worked back, and from the ruck Noble fell across the line. Messenger failed with the kick. Shortly afterwards Messenger landed a beautiful “free” from half way and from this until half-time the local backs took possession. Messenger, Trawley and Brooniham each scoring a try. Francis locked a penalty for New Zealand, and at half-time the scores were New South Wales 19, New- Zealand 2.

From the kick-off Morse passed to Francis, who fell across (the line, hut failed' in his attemmt at goal. New South Wales 19, New- Zealand 5. From play in the New South Wales’ 25, Woodward kicked a penalty goal. NewSouth Wales 19, New Zealand 9. Messenger from a passing rush scored, but Trawley failed at goal. The New- Zealand forwards, headed bv Francis, transferred play to the New South Wales’ 25. w-here Woodw-ard dodged across, but failed at goal. New South Wales 21, New Zealand 10. Prom this on. New South Wales "laved the better game in every department. McKiva'tt, Cann, and Rusher scored a try each, Messenger converting two of them. The final scores were : New South Wales 35, New Zealand! 10.
