FIRE ON WAINUI ROAD.

STORE AND DWELLING DESTROYED.

W 7 hen returning to their home on the Waimii Road at a late hour last night two Natives named Kiwi noticed signs of fire about Mr M. Barnett’s store, situated on that road. Soon after their arrival the building burst into flames and quickly was blazing merrily. In an endeavor to effect an entrance to the building John- Kiwi sustained a somewhat severe cut on the forearm, which necessitated his being attended tc bv Dr. Reeve.

"The building was soon hopelessly enveloped in flames, and no effort could be made to save the structure-, which consisted of three rooms, a scullery, and the shop. It is understood that the building was owned by Mr F. J Snide and leased to Mr Barnett. Both the premises and furniture are said to have been insured in the National office, but the amounts were not ascertainable last night. The firebell was sounded at five minutes past midnight, hut as no . water would be available in the vicinity, the services of the brigade were not called uponV* The shoo and dwelling were totally destroyed, only the chimneys remaining standing.
