WINE AND CIGARS.

SUFFRAGETTES TAKE TO MANLY HABITS.

The Suffragettes, both in New York and Boston, caused amusement the other day by the announcement that their -new headquarters in the two cities are to be provided with a smok-ing-room and a bar. “A large openair smoking-room at the back of the ground floor assembly hall and restaurant” will be an innovation in the New York premises. This is all the more remarkable, as ladies are still prohibited from smoking in New York restaurants.

At Boston the Chilton Club, the leading organisation of the women in that Puritan city, has obtained a license to sell liquor. The board which granted the license says that the license was given on the condition that the ladies shall take their cocktails, “sours,” and “fizzes” seated at tables. It is also observed that the innovation will enable the ladies to entertain their husbands and brothers, and keep them out of more detrimental resorts.
