RESOLUTIONS FROM WAIPIRO

CFER PRESS ASSOCIATION^ WELLINGTON, June 28. At. the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board’s conference to-day, a- discussion took place on the healtft of the Native race. . : Mr. Poivell (Waipiro) moved as follow's ; (1) “That legislation be passed as soon as possible transferring the control of contagious diseases from; the Department of Native Affairs'to the Public Health Officers. ’ ’ (2) “That in order to conserve the Maori race,, the question of maternity and infant • mortality he ’dealt ivith directly by responsible officers of the 1 Hospital BoardsU As a further guarantee of this, the Native race should be. brought into conformity ivith Europeans under the Registration Act, and this should be applicable not onlv to deaths but to births and marriages.” (3) “That nurses should work among the Maoris in order to. instruct them in accordance ivith the European method of living .both in sanitation and 1 health.” After hearing statements as to what the Department had done and intended doing, the mover ivithdrew clauses 1 and 3, and clause 2. ivas carried unanimously. ; •
