MARITIME CASUALTIES.

THE WRECKED WHANGAROA

[UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYEIGHT.] SYDNEY, July 7. Later messages found at Lord Howe Island report that the captain and eight of the crew of the Whangaroa landed on June 24. The scow was abandoned 1-5 miles south-west of the island. She was water-logged days before the abandonment.

Efforts are being made to wirelessly communicate with vessels in the vicinity of Lord Howe Island with the view of picking up the castaways. It is considered possible that wreckage recently sighted off Lord Howe Island came from the Whangaroa.
