A daring attempt has been made to explode the submarine mines defending Toulon. A quartermaster noticed the door of a chamber containing electric wires used for firing the mines open, and he tried to enter, but was unable, and when the door was forced' two men rushed out and overthrew the quartermaster. A fierce struggle ensued, and the sentries followed out, but the men finally escaped to a waiting motor car, which contained a closely-veiled woman, and vanished into the darkness. The sentries are to be severely punished for not using their rifles.-
