KILLED BY A MOTOR CAR.
INQUEST ON THE VICTIM. CPEE PEESS ASSOCIATION.} WELLINGTON. July 13. The inquest was concluded to-day before W. G. Riddell, S.M., on the death of Frederick Hunt, who was knocked down on Monday night by a motor cai belonging to Dr. Ewart. The only witness called was Harry Withihgton, employed at the Government, printing office. He saiv deceased crossing the road from the .Arcadia, and the motor car approaching. Deceased, he said, went down “like a skittle,” and the car put on the brake and swerved from its course. It was travelling at from 8 to 10 miles per hour. The light was bad and the deceased appeared to have his head down to avoid the wind and rain. 7 . . , , , ~. The coroner said the deceased met his death accidentally. There was a duty on both drivers and pedestrians to keep a good look-out. The verdict was that deceased died of a fracture of the skull and hemorrhage caused by being accidentally knocked down by a motor car. The coroner added that the motorman was driving at a reasonable speed; and when he, saw the. collision was inevitable he acted promptly and did everything lie could to avoid it; ■'
