There were eighty trees in all, but those at the western end were not so close, together as those at the eastern end. It was pointed out that the ©outage was very old, and that the site in the plantation was unsuitable. Mr Smith said that he did not think that the house was top old, so long as the sun could reach it. The Commissioner asked Mr Smith if he was prepared to fell twenty-four trees at the eastern end, and if he would benefit by this. Personally , he was much adverse" to the felling of the trees, but .he recognised that there was some ground to the application.
■ 4Tie applicant stated that permission to fell twenty-four trees at the easternend and six at the western end of the plantation would he satisfactory. It was decided to grant permission to 41r Smith to cut down the number of trees mentioned and the Crown Lands ranger was instructed to mark the trees to be felled.
