NOTES FROM POUAWA. [FROM OUB OWN COKBESI ONDENT.j Messrs Hood Brothers have sold their Waimoko property to Mr Douglas, of Patutahi. They" are leaving the district and possimy JNew Zealand, and were tendered a farewell social and dance on Friday evening last. Although the weather was anytning but pleasant and the roads little better tnan a swamp, over 30 of their friends put in an appearance, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. , The catering under the capable management of Mrs T. Fraser and Mrs Mackley, was a decided success. The toast of the evening was proposed by Mr. T. Fraser, who presented tlie Messrs Hood each with a handsome case of pipes, siTbscribed for by their many friends in the locality. The gifts were feelingly acknowledged, Messrs Hood expressing their sincere regret at leaving so many valued friends. The Messrs Hood have been i*esident in the Waimoko district for nine years, and have succeeded in making a nice place of what was very rough country when it fell into their hands. In fact, they have proved themselves successful colonists, and are the sort of men the country cannot well afford to loose. It is understood that they are leaving shortly fog Australia, and may ultimately settle in Queensland.
Dr. Cole lias sold his interest in his Waimoko leasehold to Mr. James Andrews, who is taking delivery at an early date. ■ '
The winter so far has been a wet one, and everything is like a sponge. However, stock are looking all. right so far, and farmers have nothing to grumble about. It is fortunate that traffic on the local roads has been light', otherwise the residents would practically have been prisoners; as it is, the roads are just negotiable.
