LIGHTNING’S EFFECTS

As the result of the recent storm which visited England, damage' is recorded as under : At Dunstable the storm was accompanied by hailstones of very large size, and hundreds of panes of glass were smashed. Hardly a house escaped damage. A “ thunderbolt ” fell at the back of Calverly road, Catford, setting fire to a large tree and the adjoining fencing. Two fire engines were required to put out the flames. _ 1 Two houses in Standard 3 oad, Ordnance road, Enfield Lock, were struck. The roofs were wrecked, pictures thrown from the walls, and other damage done. In one house a child was lying seriously ill, and it was some time before it could be rescued from among the debris.
