Mails for England, via Naples, despatched 1 from Wellington on June 9th. arrived in London on the morning of the 17th inst. Mr. J. Bollard, M.P., was the guest of honor at a crowded meeting at Avondale (Auckland) last Saturday night. For half a century Mr. Bollard has served as a member of the Avondale School Committee, and the residents came out in strength to celebrate the jubilee, and to witness the presentation' of an illuminated address. The Representation Commission opened its sittings on Tuesday, in the Museum buildings, Wellington. The personnel of the commission is as follows :—North Island : Official members, Messrs J. Strachan (Surveyor-General), E. C. Goldsmith (Chief Surveyor, Auckland), W. Armstrong (Chief Surveyor New Plymouth); unofficial members. Messrs H. S. Wardell (Wellington) and Trounson (Auckland). South Island: Official members, Messrs T. N. Brodrick (Chief Surveyor, Canterbury), E. H. Willmott (Chief Surveyor, Otago), and G. H. M’Clure (.Chief Surveyor, Westland; unofficial members, Messrs H. Quane (Christchurch) and C. S. Reeves (Dunedin). The secretaries to the commission are Messrs H. H. M'Cardell (North Island) and F. W. Bronte (South Island). The meetings are not open to the press.

The time in connection with the funeral of the late Miss Kathleen O’Connell, which takes place to-dav. has been altered from 2.30 to 1.30 o’clock, in consequence of the funeral of the late Mrs. D. Barry having been fixed for 3.15 o’clock this afternoon. The annual general meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club will be held in the Club rooms. Masonic Hotel, at 2.30 o’clock this afternoon. The report and balance-sheet to be submitted are of a highly satisfactory nature, and it is anticipated there ’will be a very large attendance at the meeting. A meeting of the Gisborne Land Agents Association was held in McKee’s Buildings on Monday. Present: Messrs W. L. Clayton (in the chair), Irvine, Innes, Simson, and Pasley. Mr Simeon moved that tile following resolution as suggested by Mr. Clayton, be endorsed, and that he be empowered to move the same at the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce:—(a) Protecting the public from misappropriation' of trust monies held -by agents from tune to time ; (b) regulating commissions charged throughout the Dominion ; (c) prevention of secret- commissions and those other than registered agents receiving commissions, and that all the agents who are members of the Chamber be asked, to attend that meeting and support the resolution. Mr. Ir vine seconded the motion, which was carried. The local Chamber of Commerce will be asked to request other Chambers of Commerce throughout the Dominion to support it in an effort to get- the necessary legislation introduced.
