EMPIRE AND THE DOMINIONS.
NEUTRALITY IN WAR SUGGESTION THE ATTITUDE OF fSOUTH AFRICA [UNITED . PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.] (Received, July 23, 5.5. p.m.) PRETORIA, July 22. The “Volksstem,” returning to the charge, quotes Canadian newspapers in support of the neutrality proposition. It declares that the Coronation festivities proved that South Africa is not lacking in loyalty, but it would be absurd that the Empire should be plunged into war simply because the Government of one portion happened to develop a quarrelsome spirit. Mr. Hertzog, speakmg at Turkfontein, said there was no reason to resort to immigration to cope with the danger without and within. The situation of South Africa was not like those of Australia and Canada, as her nearest enemy was seven thousand miles distant. South Africa did not participate in European intrigues, nor was she concerned in European ambitions.
