An incident occurred at Hope last week which in the interests of other stock owners should have publicity (states the “Nelson Colonist”)- Mrs Vincent Clayden ,after pruning shrubs in her flower garden, threw the cuttings into the paddock adjoining, where in due course they were to be burned. Three cows in the padock, however, ate the rhodondendron cuttings with avidity. The cows were afterwards discovered to be suffering severely, the symptoms being similar to those of tutu poisoning. The services of Mr W. Coleman were called in, and' he stated that he had never seen cattle in as bad a state from tutu poisoning. The cows were eventually saved. A former resident of India states that it is well known in that country that cattle must not be allowed to eat rhododendron foliage. The hundred principal trade unions had a membership of 1,422,299 in 1909, an income of £2-,060,4f10, and an expenditure of £2,087,41(3.
