COMING BAND CONTEST.

THE INITIAL ARRANGEMENTS

Tlie Band Contest Executive met yesterday morning in Mr J. R. Kirk’s office. Present: Messrs W. Pettie (m the chair), J. Webster, C. G. Bloore, J Townley J. Brown, T. E. Toneycl’iffe, J. R. Kirk and Jas. Clirisp (hon. secretary). It was decided to vote the amount (probablv £2O or £3O), necessary in addition to the £SO provided' by the Association, in order to secure the English judge, Mr. T. Morgan, who is to adjudicate at the Ballarat contests. Mr Morgan is late of the Coldstream Guards, and he is willing to come to New Zealand, but lie wishes to be Home again in March. The local committee therefore decided' to fix February 12th next as the opening day of the contest.

Tlie secretary reported' that sufficient accommodation had been arranged for 15 bands at 6s 6d per member per day. Mr J. D. Hunter, of Dunedin, is the official timekeeper to the Association, and it was decided to offer him a remuneration of £2O if he xvould act in that capacity at the contest. Mr E. R. Holbon, secretary of tlie North Island Brass Bands’ Association, will materially assist at the contest. As showing the interest that is being manifested throughout New Zealand in connection with the contest, the following bands have been in communication with the secretary:—Wanganui Garrison, Wellington Garrison, Auckland Garrison, Kaikorai (Dunedin), Palmerston North. Wellington Tramways, and Dunedin Citizens.
