During the trial of a batch of Russian. army officers for taking bribes, it was stated that one firm alone had paid two millions in bribes in 25 years. An elderly man, who at one time owned two sheep stations in New Zealand, and whose wealth was estimated at £50,000, passed through Masterton the other day with a swag on his hade.
