Several people were hit on the head during the riots in the Rhondda Valley following a mass meeting at Ton-y-Pandy. The polio© defended the pits with baton charges, but were beaten back by a fusflade of stones, and several police and strikers were badly injured. Finally the military were called out, and with fixed bayonets overawed and dispersed the rioters, including many women, who were more aggressive than the men. The infantry are now patrolling the hillsides.
