GISBORNE FOOTBALLERS FETED AT TE KARAKA.

The members of the Gisborne Football Club who played a match at Te Karaka yesterday, were the guests of the ue Karaka Club at a banquet at the 'Rangatira; Hotel last night, about 80 persons sitting down to a sumptuous menu provided by Host Williams, w r ho, as president of tne Te Ivaraka I oot.ball Club, presided. After the banquet, the following toast list was submitted: —“The King;” “The Gisborne Football Club,” proposed by Mr G. Williams, and responded to by Mr H. Skillen; ‘‘Te Karaka Football/ Club,” proposed by Mr M. B. Ansell and responded to by Mr J. B. Poynter; “Poverty Bay Rugby Union,” proposed by Mr P. J. Sefton and responded to by Mr C. Morse; “The Referees’ Association,” proposed by Mr J. B. Poynter, and responded to by Mr W. Hav; “Kindred Sports,” proposed by Mr C. A. Foote, and responded'to by Messrs W. Lewis and Lynch; “Commercial Interests,” proposed by Mr A. M. Lewis, and responded to by Mr L. T. Syines; “The Ladies,” proposed by Mr A. Stenner, and responded to by Messrs J. Pollock and H. Davis: “The Chairman,” proposed by Mir P. J. Sefton, and responded to by Mr G. Williams. An enjoyable musical programme was rendered between the toasts. During the evening a challenge issued by the Gisborne Football Club, to play the Te Karaka Club at cricket, whs accepted, and the match will come oft early in the cricket season. The visitors were further entertained at a social in the King s Theatre after the banquet. There was a large attendance, and dancing was indulged with vigor until 1 a.m., when the vsitors departed for home, highly delighted with the hospitality which had been extended 1 to them by the good people of Te Karaka.
