HEAT-CRAZED PEOPLE RAID
FACTORY
The hot weather in New York is oncoming and one of the most serious aspects of the extraordinary season is that an ice famine is threatened. There has been an excessive demand, and the companies have put up their prices 300 per cent. They also refuse to sell except to recognised dealers. About !0O men and women, driven almost frantic by the heat, stormed the offices of one of the refrigerator companies, and forced the manager to distribute coupons that could lie exchanged for ice at the store.
