HEAVY DEFEATAT AVELLINGTON. LPEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.} AVELLINGTON, August 9. The match AVellington v. North Island country team was played to-day in glorious weather, and before a moderate attendance. Victory rested with the local team by. twenty points to nil. Moffatt, Bell, Mitchinson, Roberts and Sotberan Scored', Evenson converting Mitchinson’s try, and kicking a goal from a mark. In the first spell the game was very even, the line country forwards playing with great heart, following up dribbling and tackling in great style. The score ■was six to nil at half time, country team just missing scoring on several occasions. The country backs were very uncertain in fielding, kicking and passing, McKenzie being the chief delinquent. Mexted was the best back and Carroll, Desmond Smith the best of a hardworking lot of forwards.
