THE NE TEMERE DEGREE. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! WELLINGTON,, August 10. The Wellington District Congregational Conference passed a resolution strongly protesting against the Ne Temere decree, and requesting the district committee to frame a protest and send it to the proper quarters. ** WELLINGTON COUNCIL’S PURCHASE. The City Council to-night decided to purchase an additional 75 acres land at Lyall Bay, making a reserve there of iOO acres. The price for the latest purchase is £125 per acre. The Government contributes half the cost, and will use the reserves for territorial parades, and other purposes in connection with Defence. BRIDGING WANGANUI RIVER. WANGANUI, Aug. 10. The Borough Council accepted a tender this. afternoon for the construction of a new bridge over the river between Wanganui and Wanganui East. Four tenders were received, and that of Sanders’ Bros., Wellington., for £26 ? - 000 odd, was accepted. The bridge is to be completed in two years’ time, atfer which the tramway system is to be extended to the suburb, linking up Greater Wanganui with about nine miles of tramways. *
