A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE.
MOTOR CAR SMASH. I PEE PEESS ASSOCIATION.} WOODVILLE, Aug. 10. There was a miraculous escape from a serious accident in the Manawatu Gorge at midday yesterday. Two motor cars ran into each other at a place in -the middle of the Gorge called Barney’s Point. One car belonged to Mr S. Bolton, and the other to Mr. Osborne Lilley, of Pahiatua. The former was returning from Palmerston, and it was being driven by Felix Bolton, and in it were his mother and two sisters. The other car contained' Mr. and Mrs Lilley, Miss Allen and a lady from Christchurch. The cars met at a sharp corner of the road, where there was no chance of passing, and to avoid going over the side they had to bump into each other. Mrs Bolton and her daughters were thrown out of the car over the side of the bank, the former rolling down some distance before she caught hold of a bush. In the other car the lady from Christchurch got. hexnose injured, and, strange to relate, that was the only damage sustained by any of the party. Both cars were badly damaged, and it took until nearly midnight to effect repairs.
