The representative hockey match for the shield between Auckland and Wellington eventuated on Saturday at Day’s Bay. The weather was bright and sunshiny, tempered by a cool southerly breeze, and close on three thousand spectators were present. The ground was in first-class condition, and the game was brilliant right through, and ended in a draw, each side scoring one goal. According tc the conditions governing shield matches an extra half hour has to be played in the case of a draw, and this was done, but no change in scores resulted, and Wellington, which was defending the Shield, consequently retains it.
