EXPENDITURE ON SEWERAGE
A report on the progress of the drainage works, prepared bv the chief clerk of the engineer’s department was considered by the Borough Council on Tuesday evening. The report showed the total expenditure on sewerage worts to August sth to have been £26,523. The assets were: Loan; money not evpended £33,976 7s, pipes £I3OO, cement and timber £4OO, transferable plant £SOO, total £36,176. Liabilities on various contracts total £43,312 Is lOd, supervision and engineering £2OOO, pumps om order and erection of same £2190, total £47,502 Is lOd. The amount short on loan was therefore estimated at £11,325 14s lOd (these figures being subject to confirmation by the Borough. Engineer). A statement regarding expenditure on day labor showed that on contracts 2 and 5, the Engineer’s estimate for labor was £2375 and material £1450, the amounts expended (allowing for extra' depth of trenches, house connections, ana manholes) being labor £2536 19s 5d and material £1621 lsß 7d, the debit balance being £l6l 19s 5d for labor and £l7l 18s 7d for material. The amounts necessary to complete contracts 2 and! 5 were given a.s £719 12s for labor arid £640 8s for material, the total being £1691 in excess'of the Engineer’s estimate. The report stated: “The weather -has considerably hampered the work on these contracts, thus'causing additional labor and expense.” The total length of sewers laid to August sth was 11 miles 47 chains, in addition to which 43 manholes and 104 inspection pits have been built.
