LONDON WOOL SALES
Messrs. Williams and Kettle have received the following report from their London agents, dated July 7th:—. Wool: Since our advices of a month ago the wool market has been somewhat unsatisfactory, consequent upon the woolcombers’ strike in Yorkshire, and it was generally expected that- a continuance of this state of affairs would undoubtedly adversely affect prices at the coming auctions. At the time of writing, however, the satisfactory news has come to hand that the strike has been settled, and that work will be forthwith resumed. The Jesuit will be welcomed by all, and now that the cloud has been lifted from the market, it is to be hoped that business will again proceed upon normal lines. There is no special change in the general position on the Continent, whilst reports from America are perhaps a little less pessimistic than has been z u e case for some months past. Sales of River Plate 'wool were held this week at Antwerp, and were rather- disappointing. As far as comparison can be made prices of merino ruled or a par with May London currencies, but crossbreds were par to 5 per • ent. below that level For tho auctions to commence on the 11th instant about 175,000 bales will be available, and it is hoped that low rates may be obtained.
