MONTHLY" MEETIN G. j The Cook County Couricil met yesterday afternoon. Present : The Hon. Capt. Tucker (chairman), Crs. Tl. White, T. Jex Blake, T. Holden, T. Eraser, Junr ; . Mr T. Griffen informed the Council that he did not wish*to continue the work at the Quarry, but was willing to let the Council have the plant at valuation, or failing this, to lease to them the plant, consisting of engine, crusher, fails; waggons, drills, hammers, etc., for a term of twelve months for the sum of £IOO on the conditions that the whole plant mentioned was handed back to 1 him at the end of the year in good order' and condition, fair wear and tear being allowed for. The Engineer said that he thought that they should accept the offer. They wanted stone, and some provision should be made for procuring it this season. He also thought a proper inspection of the machinery should he made before it was taken over. . On the motion of the Chairman the offer was accepted, subject to the inspection being satisfactory. _ A number of ratepayers of the Whataupoko and Waimata ridings wrote asking the Council to take such 6teps by loan or otherwise as were necessary to erect a bridge and complete the roads joining Slaughterhouse road with l Kia Ora Factory road, as this would be a direct line "to the Matawhero saleyards, and a great convenience to travelling stock from the west. lor Messrs Nelson Bros, freezing works. On the motion of Or. Holden the Engineer -was • instructed to make inspection and report to the 'Council at) the next meeting on the best site for a bridge and the cost of erection; also that the Government be asked for a subsidy . T'io Marine Department informed the Council 'tljß+ copies of the statement of the accounts of all Harbor Boards and of other bodies exercising the powers of a Harbor Board were required by law to be presented to Parliament, and as the Council exercised the powers of a Board in respect of Tologa Bay he would he glad if. the Council would' forward three copies of their statement of accounts for last year, showing receipts and expenditure on account of that Bay.—The letter was referred to the Harbor Board. The Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr C. R. Pollen) wrote with reference to the Council’s scheme for the expenditure of thirds, amounting to £47 10s, and stated the Board 'had approved of the same.—The letter was received.
Messrs Chrisp. and Coleman wrote regarding the position of the poundkeeper at Matawhero, and stated he would hand over the books and keys to Mr M. Ready, but his action *in so doing was expressly without prejudice to his. rights in any shape or form regarding his position as poundkeeper, and any. claim for damages or otherwise he might have against the Council. —The letter was received.
