MORE TROUBLE WITH RAILWAYMEN. RHONDA MINERS THREATEN TO STRIKE. LONDON. August 21. Mr Thomas, assistant secretary of the Railway Servants’ Society, states that if the companies do net adhere to the terms regarding reinstatement, the men will be called out again. The railway executive is again conferring with the Board of Trade. Mr Ramsay MacDonald states * that there is a slight hitch, which he is confident will be overcome.
The lightermen have finally agreed to refer future disputes to the Masters and Men’s Associations, and failing a settlement to then refer them to the Board of Trade.
The position on the North-Eastern lines is still serious. The strikers will not return until their demands are conceded. The Leeds station is barricaded and guarded by troops. The men believe that the companies are attempting to give priority to non-unionists. " Tile* Hull dockworkers have agreed to strike if the railwaymen desire it. Eleven hundred troops have been despatched to Darlington and Bishop Auckland, where rioting is proceeding. The Midland Company’s men have notified , the company that unless all the men are reinstated to-niglit the strike will be resumed A conference at Liverpool regarding the lockout resulted in an agreement to res'umo work. . - Twelve thousand Rhonda miners threaten an immediate strike regarding a, minimum wage. The “Daily Mail” says that the best bulwark against a general strike is compulsory arbitration. * The “Daily News” blames tile Government for not, before summoning the troops, compelling the companies to meet the men’s representativecs.
