THE BOXING CARNIVAL.
A REMINDER- TO INTENDING PATRONS. Followers of “'the noble art of selfdefence” will this evening have an opportunity of witnessing a number or what promise to be good expositions of the art. The big bout of the first- night of the Boxing Association’s tournament at the Garrison Hall will be between Jim Griffin, ex-amateur middle and heavyweight champion of Australasia, and Fred Williams, of Tologa Bay. Both men are said to be in splendid form, and it is anticipated that their -contest this evening will be a vigorous and interesting one. The other bouts also promise to afford something out of the ordinary and lovers of the sport should undoubtedly obtain full value for their money. To-morrow night the professional match for a- purse of £SO, between Jack Griffin, of Greymouth, and J. Young, of Auckland, takes place, and this should be an interesting contest. Anent L. O’Hallom, who was to have met Jack Griffin but was unable to continue his engagement on account of an injury to his -eye demanding and operation, it is stated that he is doing well, and has accepted an engagement to box Griffin at Waipawa about September 20th.
