It is stated that Masterton is one of the few townships in New Zealand where the police are allowed to issue tickets for “tea, bed,* and breakfast,” without consulting a member of the Charitable Aid Board. The demand for tickets has been pretty considerable of late.
Messrs. Baldwin .and Rayward, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, report that amongst the many applications for patents they have just filed are: —E. Larcomb, Wellington, improvements in covers for pneumatic tyres; A. Sturrock, South Melbourne, improvements in or relating to wire bound boxes; J. R. Jones, Gisborne, an improved tumbler switch for meat rails and the like; Messrs. Caldwell, Langdon, and Parkin, Christchurch, improved apparatus for soldering cans and the like.*
