ANGRY SCENE IN PARLIAMENT.

MINISTER AND MEMBER. “YOU ARE AN- INFERNAL SCOUNDREL.” In the South Australian Legislative Council the other day, Mr Styles moved the adjournment of the House to bring forward the matter of electoral irregularities. He said the chairman of the Select Committee, Mr. Mouiden, had treated a witness, Mr. F. Ward, in an unkind, unjust and ungenerous manner. He did not think the Council would expect him to remain on the committee when he saw so much injustice done. The manner ip which the witness had been treated by the chairman had certainly been suggestive of a very strong suspicion of bias. The Minister of Agriculture said it seemed to him that there had been more than an ordinary degree of discipline or harshness adopted in the handling of witnesses. It appeared that witnesses hailing from one political party wno came before the committee were made to appear as though, they were criminals.

At a later stage in the debate, ivir. Bice called the minister a “shuffler,” and declared that he was “an affront to an honest man.”

The Minister of Agriculture: You arc an infernal scoundrel! Hon. Members: Shame! Shame! Mr. Von Doussa: I would not like to die in the same paddock as you both. Mr. Bice and the Minister were required to withdraw their remarks.
