The debate on '(Sir Maurice O’Rorke’s motion for the settlement of pensioners on the land along the North Island Main Trunk Railway was negatived by 16 to 5. After Hons. Beelian and Anstey had spoken in opposition the Council adjourned. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. WELLINGTON, August 24. The House met at 2.30, when the Papakio Water Race district validation Bill, designed to remove all doubts as to the legality of matters of those connected with the Papakio water lace, district, was read a second time. The report of the Chief Justi :o regarding the Cook Islands, published elsewhere in this issue, was being considered when the House adjourned at 5.30 p.m.
