COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.
AN ADJOURNED MEETING
An adjourned meeting of the Cook County Council was held' yesterdav Present: Hon.. Captain Tucker (chairman). Crs. 11. White, T. Jex-Blake, T. Leaser, junr., T. IToiden. A. Fordo Matthews, and F. J. Lysnar. The New Zealand State Guaranteed Advances Office, in reply to the. Council as to whether the Board would entertain an application for a lean of U3SSO to repay a. loan raised under the Local Bodies' Loans Act. 190 S, regietted the Board had no authority to grant- such a loan under the provisions of the New Zealand State Guaranteed Advances Act, 1909 or its amendments, and. moreover, are net entertaining any loans for that purpose.—The letter was received.
Mr C. Williams, Muiiwai, wrote regarding the question of obtaining n Government subsidy to a possible loan in the. Muriwai district which had been the subject of correspondence between the Council and the Public Works Department. He would like to suggest that thO' Department should he reminded of the matter, and shoMld be requested to instruct their engineer to furnish a report on the suggested deviation. through the Ami settlement anti Pakowliai. He understood that this rennet, had been already made, but some time had claused without any action being taken, and since the Council had definite 1 - recommended the suggested deviation it seemed to him wise to push the matter. In asking for the sum cf £2500 he tried to make it clear that they deserved to have some money to spend in improvement further back on the Wliarerata Hill or the Kopu-a Hill, and he thought this poim. should not be lest- sight of.—lt was decided to communicate- further with the Department on the matter. A copy of the warrant authorising the construction of the Waim-ata bridge between Whataupoko and Haiti, and apportioning the cost, was received, and it was decided to obtain a copy of the Commissioner’s report. Messrs Jas. J. Nivan and Co. aon lied -for permission to remove loads of sand from Ballance Stret, near Mrs. Barker’s residence on the bill, for use in their moulding shop.-—The matter was referred to the engineer. The Borough Council wrote stating that they were prepared to supply the County Council with 80yds of broken metal per week for the present at ttlio Stanley Road depot. Should the Council desire it, the Council would lead their drays per hand crane, at 6d per yard.—This offer was accepted. The Commissioner of Crown. Lands wrote stating that his attention had been drawn by Mr. A. E. Cowley, the lessee of section 1, Block XI., Waikiohm S.D., to the impassable state of the road to his holding. He would be obliged if the Council could see their way clear to. help Mr. Cowley and the other settlers at that end of the settlement in the matter of improving the read of access.—lt was decided to forward a letter to. the Minister of Public Works stating that the Council would be willing to expend an- grant the Government may make to those: cf their tenants'. Mr. J. Campbell, Makauri, wrote asking the Council to open the road from the main Ormond Road to the Bushmere main road, to. give him a read to his property. He pointed out that a. portion' of the road had been ploughed, and there was ne drain to let: the water away, and he suffered as a result. As a matter of fact the drain liad be-eoi .piloaigibed in, and was verv inconvenient. —The engineer was instructed to have the road opened.
